Employing roughly 100 people, Luvata Waterbury is located in New Haven County, Connecticut, 33 miles (53 km) southwest of Hartford and 77 miles (124 km) northeast of New York City.

Luvata in Waterbury (known as the 'Brass City'), Connecticut is a recognized leader in the manufacture of superconductive wires for medical diagnostic systems, high energy physics projects and related applications.

Superconducting wires and cables are used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners, high energy physics particle accelerators, synchrotrons to generate proton beams for cancer therapy, magnets for fusion energy development and other scientific applications.

Visionary researchers from General Electric formed their own company in 1971, Intermagnetics General Corporation (IGC) to successfully build laboratory-sized superconductor magnets. These magnets became the foundation for MRI machines in the 1980s.  The superconducting materials segment of IGC has become Luvata Waterbury, Inc.

Luvata Waterbury's History:

1971 - founding Intermagnetics General Corporation (IGC)
2001 - acquisition of IGC Advanced Superconductors by Outokumpu Copper Products Oy
2006 - Outokumpu Copper Products Oy acquired and rebanded Luvata
2009 - awarded $26 million nuclear fusion contract from the US Department of Energy.
2010 - receives $6.5 million contract to supply superconducting wire to CEA Saclay
2013 - new lease signed to expand MRI superconducing wire manufacturing capacity
2017 - acquired by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation
2019 - attains ISO 14001:2015 certification

Hours and shifts
Luvata Waterbury is regularly looking to fill manufacturing positions for machine operators

We offer the following shifts:

Regular three shift operations:
  • Monday-Friday 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts
  • Eight hour shifts
  • Time and a half: Monday-Friday over 8 hours worked & Saturdays
  • Double time: Sundays
Swing Shift:
  • Four day (48) hour week and three day 36 hour weeks alternating
  • 12 hour shifts
  • Two weekends off per month
